CUZ Welcomes New Semester with Thanksgiving Opening Mass

The Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) officially welcomed students and staff into the new semester with a beautiful Thanksgiving Opening Mass held on 20 August 2026 at the Innovation Hub.

The Mass provided an opportunity for the university community to give thanks to God for His guidance and protection during the vacation period, while entrusting the new semester into His care. Students and staff attended the celebration in large numbers, creating a joyful and prayerful atmosphere as the CUZ community came together once again.

The Eucharistic celebration was led by the University Chaplain, Father Guide Marambanyika, together with Father Antonio Marizane. The priests encouraged the university community to begin the semester with renewed faith, purpose, commitment and openness to God’s guidance.

A fitting message from the day’s Scripture was proclaimed through the Gospel Acclamation:

“Do not harden your hearts but listen to the voice of the Lord.” — Psalm 95:8

The message served as a meaningful reminder to students and staff to remain attentive to God’s voice throughout the semester and to approach their academic, professional and personal responsibilities with humility, dedication and faith.

The Thanksgiving Mass also marked a warm welcome to students returning from vacation, as well as the new students joining the CUZ family. Their presence added to the excitement of a new academic chapter as the university community looks forward to a productive and fulfilling semester.

As CUZ continues its mission of providing education rooted in academic excellence, faith and service, the university encourages every member of its community to embrace the semester with renewed commitment. Students are encouraged to be present, engaged and dedicated to their studies, while staff are encouraged to continue serving with excellence and purpose in their respective fields.
