The Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) hosted a public lecture by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Monday, 7 September 2026, providing students with valuable insights into public sector careers, employment opportunities, e-recruitment and the role of young people in Zimbabwe’s development.

The engagement brought together students, university representatives and officials from the Public Service Commission for an informative and interactive session focused on connecting young people with opportunities within the public service while encouraging them to think critically about their role in building the nation.

Connecting Students with Public Service Opportunities

A key objective of the public lecture was to give CUZ students a better understanding of the work of the Public Service Commission and the various employment opportunities available within the public sector.

The PSC highlighted the important role that the public service plays in serving communities and contributing to national development. Students were encouraged to view public service not only as a source of employment, but also as an opportunity to contribute their knowledge, skills and expertise towards improving the lives of people and strengthening Zimbabwean institutions.

The engagement provided students with an opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of how their academic qualifications can translate into career opportunities and meaningful contributions to society.

Introducing Students to E-Recruitment

One of the key highlights of the lecture was the introduction of students to the Public Service Commission’s e-recruitment platform, which provides a digital avenue through which employment opportunities and vacancies within the public service can be accessed.

Students were encouraged to make use of the platform to stay informed about available vacancies and to take greater responsibility for actively seeking career opportunities.

The introduction of e-recruitment also highlighted the growing importance of digital platforms in making employment information more accessible and improving the way organisations connect with prospective employees.

For university students and graduates entering an increasingly competitive employment environment, access to reliable information about vacancies is an important step towards making informed career decisions.

Encouraging Innovation and Responsible Use of Technology

Beyond employment opportunities, the public lecture placed significant emphasis on innovation, technology and responsible digital citizenship.

Students were encouraged to embrace technology as a tool for solving problems, creating opportunities and developing innovative solutions to challenges facing communities and the country.

However, the PSC also emphasised that technological advancement must be accompanied by responsibility and ethical conduct. As young people increasingly use digital technologies, students were encouraged to consider how technology can be used positively and responsibly to contribute to society.

The message was particularly relevant in an era where digital technologies are rapidly transforming education, business, government and employment. Rather than simply being consumers of technology, students were challenged to become innovators, creators and problem-solvers.
