The Catholic University of Zimbabwe proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its student-athletes who continue to excel both academically and in sport, raising the university’s flag high on national and international platforms.
Among the students making remarkable strides is Thabani Christian Nhokwara, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Business Management & Information Technology (BBMIT). Thabani has continued to impress in tennis following his strong performances in Bulawayo, which earned him selection by Bindura University of Science Education to represent Team ZUS (Zimbabwe University Sports – formerly ZUSA) alongside other top university athletes from across the country.
Last week, Thabani competed at the Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports (ZITS – formerly ZITISU) competitions held at Harare Polytechnic, where he once again showcased exceptional talent, discipline, and determination. His impressive performances earned him selection into the Zimbabwe national university team that will compete at the Confederation of University and College Sports Associations (CUCSA) games scheduled to take place in Botswana from 29 June to 3 July 2026.
The university also celebrates the achievements of Darryl Mwenso, a third-year BBMIT student and talented rugby player for Harare Sports Club. Darryl was selected to represent Team ZUS at the ZITS competitions after being invited by Bindura University of Science Education to strengthen their rugby squad following their gold medal victory at the ZUS rugby tournament.
The team once again delivered an outstanding performance and secured another gold medal at the ZITS competitions. Although the rugby team will unfortunately not participate in the upcoming CUCSA games, Darryl’s contribution and dedication remain a great source of pride for the Catholic University of Zimbabwe.
Earlier this year, another first-year BBMIT student, Tawana Bwanya, also made the university proud after being selected to represent Zimbabwe in the Under-20 national rugby team. Tawana’s achievement highlights the growing sporting excellence within the university community and reflects the commitment and hard work of CUZ student-athletes.
The Catholic University of Zimbabwe extends heartfelt congratulations to Thabani, Darryl, Tawana, and all other athletes who participated in the competitions. Their dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship continue to inspire the university community and demonstrate the importance of balancing academic excellence with sporting achievement.
We wish all our athletes continued success as they continue to represent both the university and the nation with pride.
