Vacancy: Vice-Chancellor Position at the Catholic University of Zimbabwe

The Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Vice-Chancellor.

About the Catholic University of Zimbabwe

Founded in 1998 under the auspices of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference, CUZ is governed by the University Council. Our vision is to be the university of choice for inclusive, holistic, and adaptive education in a Christian environment. To achieve our mission, we are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Vice-Chancellor.

Role of the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor will:

  • Oversee the academic, administrative, and financial affairs of the University.
  • In the absence of the Chancellor, preside over ceremonial assemblies and confer degrees and other academic titles.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice-Chancellor will:

  1. Provide leadership in the academic, administrative, and financial operations of the University.
  2. Ensure the implementation and monitoring of the University’s strategic plan.
  3. Lead efforts to mobilize resources for University initiatives.
  4. Chair meetings of the University Senate.
  5. Ensure optimal utilization of resources, promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability.
  6. Oversee the performance and appraisal of senior managers to fulfill the University’s vision and mission.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Hold a PhD or equivalent academic doctorate from a recognized institution.
  2. Be aged between 45 and 60 at the time of application.
  3. Preference for candidates with the rank of Professor.
  4. A minimum of 10 years of senior management experience, with at least 5 years at the level of Dean or equivalent.
  5. Demonstrated academic excellence and leadership, with a strong publication record and community service.
  6. Understanding of the Catholic philosophy of education; experience in a Catholic institution is an advantage.
  7. Proven experience in networking, resource mobilization, and grant proposal writing.
  8. Knowledge of the higher education regulatory framework in Zimbabwe.
  9. High standards of transparency, honesty, and integrity.
  10. Experience in performance management and public financial management.

Tenure

The Vice-Chancellor’s term is five (5) years, renewable based on satisfactory performance.

Remuneration

Administration

QUALITY ASSURANCE DIRECTOR:

 

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive quality assurance program that supports the University’s strategic plan, mission, and goals.
2. Establish and maintain quality assurance standards and procedures, including
assessment, evaluation, and reporting of quality metrics.
3. Work collaboratively with academic and administrative departments to support
continuous improvement efforts using data analysis, best practices, and bench marking.
4. Provide leadership and guidance to faculty and staff on matters related to quality
assurance and continuous improvement.
5. Serve as the primary liaison with external accreditation agencies including the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) and ensure compliance with accrediting standards.
6. Coordinate the process of accreditation of academic programmes and ensure that proposals for new programs, reviews of existing programs, and changes to existing programs meet the requirements of Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE).
7. Ensure that proposals for new programs, reviews of existing programs, and changes to existing programs meet the requirements of ZIMCHE and the Institutional Quality Assurance Standards.
8. Conduct regular audits of academic and administrative departments to ensure
compliance with policies and procedures.
9. Develop and deliver training programs on quality assurance and continuous
improvement methods and techniques.
10. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to risk management and compliance.

11. Engage the CUZ community to ensure delivery of the University’s overall quality assurance program.
12. Ensure sustainable quality assurance and sustainable delivery of services by the
University.
13. Perform any other duties related to Quality Assurance as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Essential Attributes:

Applicants must have at least:
● A Doctoral degree,
● At least two (2) years; experience in Teaching, Research and Community engagement preferably at Associate Professor Level or above,
● At least five (5) years; at. senior management level such as a Dean of Faculty or
Chairperson of a Department
● Demonstrate leadership experience in higher education quality promotion and
assurance,
● Evidence of in-depth and extensive knowledge of higher education and related quality assurance policies, processes and issues,
● Evidence of competence in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and excellent report writing skills,
● Research record (consonant with the level of appointment).
● Experience in developing and implementing quality assurance programs.
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
● Experience managing a team of professionals.
● Project management qualification will be an added advantage.

3. Work collaboratively with academic and administrative departments to support
continuous improvement efforts using data analysis, best practices, and bench marking.
4. Assist in the preparation of reports related to quality assurance activities and outcomes.
5. Participate in the development and delivery of training programs on quality assurance and continuous improvement methods and techniques.
6. Conduct audits of academic and administrative departments to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
7. Assist in the management of external accreditation processes and ensure compliance with accrediting standards.
8. Provide support to academic and administrative departments on matters related to quality assurance and continuous improvement.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of sustainable policies and procedures related to risk management and compliance.
10. Perform any other duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Director

Qualifications and Essential Attributes:

● Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, master’s preferred.
● 2+ years of experience in quality assurance or related field in higher education.
● Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices.
● Experience in supporting the development and implementation of quality assurance programs.
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
