STRATEGIC PLAN
Strategic Pillar 1: Grow the Academic Programme
The more the academic programmes the university offers, the bigger the numbers of students the university will have as students will have a wider canvas of courses/programmes to choose. Over the period 2013-2023, CUZ introduced many new programmes, some of which still need to become consolidated, while others have become established. Over the period 2024-2028, CUZ departments will:
1.Devise strategies to effectively roll out approved programmes which have not as yet become fully established.
2.Develop, introduce, and effectively role out new programmes.
Strategic Pillar 2: Grow Infrastructure
Over the period 2013-2023, CUZ re-furbished, re-purposed and built infrastructure in response to growing student and staff numbers, some of which, such as the St. Francis block, the Library, Charles Lwanga, the clinic, the 3.7km perimeter brick wall, the Jerusalem Events Arena (JEA), St. Anne’s block, are complete, while others, such as the chapel and the new teaching block, are still to be completed. Sports fields and indoor sports facilities are still to be completed. In the 2023-2028 period, CUZ will:
1.Complete buildings that are under construction.
2.Complete construction of sporting facilities, both outdoors and indoors.
3.Procure essential teaching, research, innovation and service equipment and facilities for all campuses, including a university bus for Harare.
4.Finalize plans and thereafter construction of student hostels.
5.Construct more teaching blocks in anticipation of increased student numbers when the university becomes residential.
6.Construct a staff common room and a students’ services centre.
7.Improve the ambience of all CUZ campuses.
Strategic Pillar 3: Institutionalise Quality Performance in All Aspects of University Operations
In 2023, CUZ established a fulltime Quality Assurance Directorate (QAD) at the Harare Campus which proceeded to set up Quality Assurance (QA) structures at all levels in the university. As QA is meeting the standards previously set, over the period 2024-2028:
1.The CUZ QAD will consolidate QA structures established in 2023.
2.The CUZ QAD will complete setting up QA processes and procedures and extend these to all CUZ campuses.
3.Every unit, Department and Faculty will include a QA provision in its annual Strategic Operational Action Plan (SOAP).
Strategic Pillar 4: Institutionalise Programmes for Holistic Quality CUZ Experience for Students and Staff
In fulfilment of its mission, CUZ strives to provide a holistic, quality and memorable experience to its students and staff. Over the period 2024-2028, CUZ will:
1.Provide for sporting and physical exercising of staff and students.
2.Institute social and interactive occasions for students and staff.
3.Provide for the psycho-social-spiritual support for staff and students.
Strategic Pillar 5: Institutionalise Staff Retention Initiatives
Over the period 2013-2023, CUZ increased its staff more than ten-fold. While efforts to attract the best qualified staff and retain them have been made, these efforts have not been adequate and should therefore be increased over the 2024-2028 period to earn CUZ the reputation of “the preferred university for one to work in Zimbabwe.” CUZ will:
1.Review and improve conditions of service for staff
2.Conduct annual academic promotions for its academic staff
3.Take a new look at staff psycho-social-spiritual welfare and provide needed support
4.Improve the sense of belonging to all staff
