Catholic University of Zimbabwe Soccer, Volleyball, and Basketball Teams Shine at Arrupe Sports Invitation
The Catholic University of Zimbabwe (CUZ) was proud to participate in a vibrant and competitive sports day hosted at St. George’s College in Harare on a sun-filled day. This exciting event, organized by Arrupe Jesuit University (AJU), brought together athletes from various institutions for a day of thrilling sportsmanship and competition.
CUZ showcased their sporting excellence across soccer, volleyball, and basketball, proving once again their place as a formidable force in their sport disciplines.
CUZ Soccer Team’s Impressive Run
The CUZ soccer team set the tone with a dominant 7-1 victory against Mazowe Seminary in their opening match. Their momentum continued as they battled through a close 1-0 win against Chishawasha Seminary, demonstrating tactical discipline and resilience. The day’s climax was an intense matchup against the hosts, Arrupe Jesuit University, which ended in a goalless draw. CUZ held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout, triumphing 4-3 to cap off a perfect performance on the soccer field.
Volleyball Success: CUZ Triumphs Over All
On the volleyball courts, CUZ’s towering team played three highly competitive matches and emerged victorious in all. After an early set loss to Chishawasha Seminary, CUZ rallied to win the game. Their most intense battle was against the hosts, AJU, where CUZ mounted a spectacular comeback from 13-5 in the second set to win the match 2-1. CUZ then completed their clean sweep by defeating Mazowe Seminary in another three-set thriller.
Basketball: Competitive Spirit Shines Through
CUZ’s basketball team also put up a strong showing, playing two thrilling games. Despite a loss in one of the matches, CUZ rebounded with a solid win in their second game, highlighting the team’s resilience and competitive edge.
